Winner, Best Music Revue, San Francisco Fringe Festival
Dave also sang the track Dick And Dolores on Rupert's 2010 album Joe's Cafe, and he has performed many of its songs in the traveling road show in venues including the Metropolitan Room in New York City, The Exit Theatre in San Francisco, the Minneapolis Theatre Garage, The White Horse in Black Mountain, NC, and Tressa's Downtown Jazz and Blues in Asheville, NC.
From the Joe's Cafe website: "Fifteen original songs, all based on true stories and each sung by a different vocalist, retell the experience of ordinary American people. Through them we trace the history of America itself: through two world wars, the Dust Bowl depression, Vietnam and the struggle for Civil Rights, all the way to the present day.
The album was recorded live in the studio over a single weekend. Its warm sound captures the welcoming atmosphere of an all-night cafe, where friends gather to share their stories. Featured musicians include Bartosz Hadala on piano, Michael Manring on bass, Chris Howard on percussion, Darol Anger on violin, and (on the track "We Regret") Raphael McGregor on lap steel.
In addition to Rupert Wates, vocalists on the album include (in order of appearance) Gretchen Witt, Jack Harlan, Ashley Gonzalez, Cassendre Xavier, Todd Londagin, Steffen Hartleib, Stacey Lorin, Jason Ewald, Dave Turner, Safiya Fredericks, Katie Pearlman, and Craig Bickhardt.
